NEW TOURISM PRODUCTS IN MELAKA

PPSPM to develop new tourism products for Visit Melaka Year 2024

MELAKA – The Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) will diversify its tourism products, including introducing a floating market as a new attraction in preparation for Visit Melaka Year (TMM) 2024.

PPSPM chief executive officer Datuk Murad Husin said the second phase of the Melaka River development project with the developer covers the area around Taman Lagenda and is expected to be operational next year.

“We are trying to take a different approach from floating markets in other places by selling Melaka products and dry food. It will also be accessible to passengers on the Melaka River Cruise, which travels along the river.

“In addition, PPSPM is targeting to make the Sigua (or Monitor Lizard) Mini Theme Park, set to open at the end of this year, as a new attraction to this state,” he told reporters after the inauguration of PPSPM’s new office and the launch of the Melaka Water Taxi in conjunction with the Aidilfitri open house here last night.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh officiated the ceremony, with state Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman also present.

In the meantime, Murad said the water taxi service is seen as an alternative for tourists to tour around Banda Hilir when the tourist area is made a vehicle-free zone every Friday to Sunday, which is expected to be implemented next month.

“The price offered is reasonable, from as low as RM1 to RM10, and visitors can park their vehicles at any parking area to take a water taxi to their destination,” he said.

As of May 15, the Melaka River Cruise has attracted 283,540 visitors, and a target of 800,000 visitors has been set for this year.

“Last year, we recorded 792,215 local and foreign visitors, exceeding the target of 700,000 people,” he said. – Bernama
