Meridian Berhad to Develop Hasbro-Themed Water Park
Meridian Berhad has entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop the world’s first-ever Hasbro-themed water park.
The water park will be based on well-known Hasbro brands such as My Little Pony, Nerf and Monopoly. It will be among the attractions at Meridian Berhad’s recently launched flagship project, the Malaysia Tourism City (MTC). The MTC will sit on 600 acres in Kuala Linggi that will be allocated for leisure and entertainment, commercial, retail, residential and other public uses. The newly emerged major shareholder of Meridian, Dato’ Seth Yap Ting Hau (Dato’ Seth), is spearheading the project.
Dato’ Seth said: “Our ultimate goal for MTC is to establish a unique position that reflects MTC as ‘the destination’, that prolongs tourists’ average length of stay. Today’s signing ceremony marks a remarkable milestone between the parties. By signing the agreement, we will be entering a relationship with Hasbro to develop the world’s first themed water park based on their beloved brands, including My Little Pony, Nerf and Monopoly and more, which will be an iconic anchor attraction at the heart of the MTC master plan. The water park will be 20 acres in size, offering a wide range of new rides that are not available in other parks in Malaysia, by weaving in exclusive IP rights.”
Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism and Culture YB Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi added: “With these new developments, we are optimistic that it would bring in greater inflow of tourists in the Melaka state. This does not only encourage spending in our local businesses, but it also coherently increases the employment opportunities in the Melaka state.”
