The Urban and Rural Planning Department recently released it’s list of the 10 happiest places in Malaysia with Melaka, Taiping and Seremban among the selections.
Malaysia’s towns and cities were judged using a Happiness Index that measured the overall well-being of the population with consideration to the environment as well as mental and physical health
Happiness with family and relatives, pleasure in working, relationship with neighbours, community activities and environmental quality are also factors taken into consideration.
According to Malay Mail, the happiness index is one of the indicators in Malaysian Urban Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets). 
Taiping, which is listed among the happiest places in Malaysia, was named among the top three sustainable cities in the world with the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Award.
Malaysia’s wettest capital was also listed as one of the 100 Sustainable Cities by Green Destinations in December 2018.
The 10 happiest places in Malaysia are:
  • Malacca
  • Kuala Terengganu
  • Seremban
  • Kulai
  • Taiping
  • Kuantan
  • Bentong
  • Jasin
  • Yan
  • Jeli
