Based on records received by the Tourism Promotion Division of the Melaka Chief Minister's Department, a total of 249,829 tourists have boarded luxury cruise ships to Melaka.
State tourism, heritage, arts and culture committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the arrival of the tourists was via six luxury cruise ships – Genting Dream, Seven Sea Voyager, Riviera, Star Voyager, Regatta and Nautica.
"However, only 143,218 tourists have landed at the Melaka Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex," he said at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly session at the Seri Negeri Complex here on Monday (Dec 8).
He was answering a question from Low Chee Leong (PH-Kota Laksamana) regarding the number of luxury cruise ship tourist landings in Melaka each month since 2024.
Regarding the construction of the Cruise Terminal on Pulau Melaka, Abdul Razak stated that development work has begun, and progress was at approximately 5%.
"To date, a total of 60 piles have been installed, marking the start of construction work on the terminal's basic structure.
