ELECTRIC/GAS POWERED TUK-TUK FOR MELAKA AS WELL?

23rd. February 2010

Why not we introduce the electric driven or natural gas driven "Tuk-Tuk" ( 3 wheeled mini-trishaws ) for visitors and Malaccans to travel easily around Melaka? Some tuk-tuks of Thailand are designed to incorporate air-conditioning in their cabs and are gas driven or electric driven.

Electric or gas driven tuk-tuks can be brought in at lower costs and implemented easily on existing roads. They should be tried and tested for road worthiness and safety on our Malacca roads. They should be used for short and medium range distance and within the heritage area. Being green, these tuk-tuks are environmentally friendly, minimum noise and do not pollute the heritage area.

We call upon the Melaka Historical City Council to expedite such a study and buy some units of these electric tuk-tuks for trial runs and test their effectiveness.

Let us think out of the box and also learn from our neighbouring country like Bangkok on this matter.
